Safety information
PuzzleController is not a safety system.
PuzzleController controls real equipment such as doors, locks, lights and audio. It is not a safety system and never replaces your venue’s hard-wired emergency stop and door release. Door release, power and the emergency stop are handled by the room’s E-stop and PLC. Stop room only brings lights up, stops audio and pauses the game.
PuzzleController software, including PuzzleController Core, the PuzzleController Studio desktop app and PuzzleController modules, controls show equipment such as lights, audio, video, props and door locks. None of it is designed, tested or certified as a safety function, a safety-related control system, an emergency stop, a fire or egress system, or an access-control system for life safety, and it must never be relied on as one.
Emergency stop and door release are electrical
Every locked or powered door, and every hazardous output, must be released or made safe by the venue’s hard-wired emergency stop, fail-safe power arrangement and PLC or relay circuit. That circuit must work with the Core, network, app and Internet switched off or failed. Software must not be wired so that it can block, delay or override that circuit.
“Stop room” is not an emergency stop
Stop room is a best-effort courtesy: lights up, audio off, game paused. It may not act if a computer, network or module is unavailable.
Remote and automatic actions can fail or be delayed
Network faults, software faults, updates and power loss can stop, delay or repeat commands. Commands sent remotely act on real equipment on site.
The venue is responsible
The venue is responsible for the design, installation, inspection and maintenance of its electrical and life-safety systems by appropriately licensed people. These include, as applicable:
- wiring to AS/NZS 3000 (Wiring Rules);
- the egress, door-hardware and fire-safety provisions of the National Construction Code and state and territory building and fire regulations;
- maglock fail-safe release on emergency-stop activation, fire alarm and power failure;
- risk assessment and duties under the applicable work health and safety law;
- staff training and supervision of players at all times.
Test the emergency stop and all door releases before every session, as your procedures require.
